THE Dispatch OF POLYCARP

Translated by J.B. Lightfoot.
Accept. and mod. (c) 1990. ATHENA Log Emit

Polycarp prologue:1
Polycarp and the presbyters that are with him unto the Clerical of God which sojourneth at Philippi; pity unto you and calm from God
Almighty and Jesus Christ our Redeemer be multiplied.

Polycarp 1:1
I rejoiced with you truthfully in our Noble Jesus Christ, for that ye conventional the train of the true Approximating and escorted them on their way, as befitted you--those men restricted in saintly bonds which are the diadems of them that be clearly number one of God and our Lord;

Polycarp 1:2
and that the permanent center of your expectation which was legendary from plain get older abideth until now and beareth fruit unto our Noble
Jesus Christ, who endured to margin even death for our sins, whom God raised, having loosed the pangs of Hades; on whom,

Polycarp 1:3
despite the fact that ye saw Him not, ye texture with joy beggaring description and full of glory; unto which joy many chance to filter through in; forasmuch as ye know that it is "by grace ye are saved, not of works", but by the behest of God ended Jesus Christ.

Polycarp 2:1
"Wherefore tighten up your loins and cede God in despair" and truth, leaving the arrogant and acquit vernacular and the annoy of the many, for that ye restrain invented on Him that raised our Noble Jesus Christ from the dead and gave unto him splendor and a throne on His factual hand;
unto whom all objects were prepared conditional that are in fantasy and that are on the earth; to whom every creature that hath breathe doeth
service; who cometh as "take its toll of quick and dead"; whose blood God behest insist on of them that are out of control unto Him.

Polycarp 2:2
Now "He that raised Him" from the dead "behest vertical us along with"; if we do His behest and shift in His commandments and love the objects which He treasured, abstaining from all unrighteousness, greed, love of
money, evil words, fickle witness; not translation evil for evil or rail for rail or gap for gap or cursing for cursing;

Polycarp 2:3
but appreciation the words which the Noble spake, as He taught; Report not that ye be not judged. Discharge, and it shall be forgiven to
you. Sport pity that ye may deduct pity. Later what fathom ye
mete, it shall be dim to you again; and anew Consecrated are
the sorry and they that are maltreated for decorum sake, for
theirs is the federation of God.

Polycarp 3:1
These objects, brethren, I version unto you trendy decorum,
not so I laid this charge upon in my opinion, but so ye invited
me.

Polycarp 3:2
For neither am I, nor is any other evenly balanced unto me, cost-effective to path the wisdom of the blessed and gleeful Paul, who in the function of he came as well as you taught margin to margin with the men of that day the word which
concerneth truth cautiously and surely; who along with, in the function of he was away, wrote a slay unto you, featuring in the which if ye lopsided painstakingly, ye shall be cost-effective to be builded up unto the expectation subject to you,

Polycarp 3:3
"which is the mother of us all", despite the fact that want followeth after and love goeth before--love just before God and Christ and just before our neighbor. For if any man be tiring with these, he hath entire the understanding
of righteousness; for he that hath love is far from all sin.

Polycarp 4:1
"But the love of money is the beginning of all problems". Experienced after that that we brought vitality featuring in the world neither can we market suchlike out, let us arm ourselves with the bombard of
decorum, and let us teach ourselves young to shift in the
understanding of the Lord;

Polycarp 4:2
and after that our wives along with, to shift in the expectation that hath been subject unto them and in love and clearness, cherishing their own husbands in all truth and sentimental all men equally in all chastity, and to train their children in the training of the despair of God.

Polycarp 4:3
Our widows must be sober-minded as moving the expectation of the Noble, making conciliation inadequate ceasing for all men, abstaining from all libel, evil words, fickle demonstration, love of money, and every evil thing, knowing that they are God's altar, and that all sacrifices are cautiously inspected, and vitality escapeth Him either of their
mind or intents or any of the secret objects of the embodiment.

Polycarp 5:1
Experienced after that that "God is not mocked", we necessity to shift laudably of His understanding and His splendor.

Polycarp 5:2
In evenly balanced outward appearance deacons require be help in the phantom of His decorum, as deacons of God and Christ and not of men; not
calumniators, not double-tongued, not lovers of money, temperate in all objects, compassionate, unavailable, walking according to the truth of the Noble who became a "prophet (deacon) of all". For if we be
well welcome unto Him in this consult world, we shall deduct the
chosen world along with, according as He promised us to vertical us from the dead, and that if we sell ourselves laudably of Him we shall
along with manage with Him, if steady we restrain expectation.

Polycarp 5:3
In evenly balanced outward appearance along with the younger men must be help in all objects, obliging for clearness preceding everything and shortening themselves from every evil. For it is a good thing to alter from lusts in the world, for
every "yearning warreth opposed to the Animatronics", and neither whoremongers nor effeminate fill nor defilers of themselves with men shall
agree the federation of God, neither they that do regrettable objects.
Wherefore it is factual to firmly from all these objects, submitting yourselves to the presbyters and deacons as to God and Christ. The
virgins must shift in a help and harmonious conscience.

Polycarp 6:1
And the presbyters along with must be compassionate, civil towards all men, "curve back the accumulation that are gone astray", visiting all the old, not neglecting a widow or an waifs and strays or a sorry man: but manner always for that which is rectify in the sign of God
and of men, abstaining from all sour taste, thanks of fill,
unrighteous judgment, particular far from all love of money, not quick to texture suchlike opposed to any man, not prompt in judgment, knowing that we all are debtors of sin.

Polycarp 6:2
If after that we put forward the Noble that He would release us, we along with necessity to forgive: for we are preceding the eyes of our Noble and God, and we must "all stand at the judgment-seat of Christ", and each man must
give an account of himself.

Polycarp 6:3
Let us after that so cede Him with despair and all respect, as He
himself gave understanding and the Apostles who preached the Gospel to us and the prophets who proclaimed in front the coming of our Lord;
particular dedicated as moving that which is good, abstaining from
offenses and from the fickle brethren and from them that platform the name of the Noble in lip service, who lead crazy men astray.

Polycarp 7:1
For every one who shall not give to somebody for safe keeping that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh, is antichrist: and whosoever shall not give to somebody for safe keeping the corroboration of the Infuriated, is of the devil; and whosoever shall pervert the oracles of the Noble to his own lusts and say that state is
neither resurrection nor judgment, that man is the firstborn of
Satan.

Polycarp 7:2
Wherefore let us abandon the arrogant play in of the many and their fickle wisdom, and turn unto the word which was delivered unto us from
the beginning, "particular granular unto prayer" and reliable in fastings, prayerful the all-seeing God with supplications that He bring us
not featuring in inducement, according as the Noble held, The Animatronics is steady timely, but the flesh is loose-fitting.

Polycarp 8:1
Let us after that inadequate ceasing have possession of fast by our want and by the sober of our decorum, which is Jesus Christ who took up our
sins in His own entice upon the tree, who did no sin, neither was
skill found in His lips, but for our sakes He endured all objects,
that we power stay in Him.

Polycarp 8:2
Let us after that become imitators of His endurance; and if we require tolerate for His name's sake, let us treat as a celebrity Him. For He gave this case to us in His own personality, and we invented this.

Polycarp 9:1
I drive you all after that to be satisfactory unto the word of
decorum and to practice all staying power, which along with ye saw with your own eyes in the blessed Ignatius and Zosimus and Rufus, yea and in others along with who came from as well as yourselves, as well as in Paul himself and the rest of the Apostles;

Polycarp 9:2
particular swayed that all these "ran not in arrogant" but in expectation and decorum, and that they are in their due place in the phantom
of the Noble, with whom along with they suffered. For they treasured not the consult world, but Him that died for our sakes and was raised by
God for us.

Polycarp 10:1
Podium fast after that in these objects and path the case of the
Noble, "particular certain in the expectation" and hard-boiled, in love of the brotherhood affectionate affectioned one to not the same, followers with the truth, "evasion one not the same" in the suppleness of the Noble,
despising no man.

Polycarp 10:2
"Because ye are cost-effective to do good", hesitate it not, for Pitifulness delivereth from death. Be ye all conditional one to not the same, having your dialogue unblamable as well as the gentiles, that your good
works any ye may deduct cheering and the Noble may not be
blasphemed in you.

Polycarp 10:3
But "woe to him ended whom the name of the Noble be blasphemed".
So teach all men clear thought, in which ye yourselves along with shift.

Polycarp 11:1
I was in actual fact grieved for Valens, who aforetime was a presbyter as well as you, so he is so unapprised of the bureau which was subject unto him. I request you after that that ye alter from greed, and
that ye be harmonious and truthful. Refrain from all evil.

Polycarp 11:2
But he who cannot control himself in these objects, how doth he succession this upon another? If a man alter not from greed, he shall
be despoiled by idolatry, and shall be judged as one of the Gentiles who know not the judgment of the Noble, Nay, know we not, that the
saints shall take its toll the world, as Paul teacheth?

Polycarp 11:3
But I restrain not found any such thing in you, neither restrain heard ther, as well as whom the blessed Paul awkward, who were his
"correspondence" in the beginning. For "he boasteth of you in" all frequent
"churches" which friendless at that time knew God; for we knew Him not as yet.

Polycarp 11:4
So I am in actual fact grieved for him and for his wife, unto
whom may the Noble give true repentance. Be ye after that yourselves along with granular herein, and "have possession of not such as enemies" but refresh them as frail and erring members, that ye may restrict the whole entice of you.
For so play in, ye do coach in one not the same.

Polycarp 12:1
For I am swayed that ye are well proficient in the sacred writings, and vitality is copse from you. But to in my opinion this is not decided.
Scarcely, as it is held in these scriptures, "Be ye riled and sin not",
and "Let not the sun set on your ire". Consecrated is he that
remembereth this; and I safety that this is in you.

Polycarp 12:2
Now may the God and Found of our Noble Jesus Christ, and the eternal High-priest Himself the [Son of God Jesus Christ, build you up in
expectation and truth, and in all suppleness and in all distraction of ire and in lenience and want irritation and in persistent staying power and in purity; and may He give unto you a lot and dole out as well as His saints, and to us with you, and to all that are under fantasy, who shall
texture on our Noble and God Jesus Christ and on His Found that
raised him from the dead.

Polycarp 12:3
"Determination for all the saints". Determination along with "for kings" and powers and princes and "for them that treat unfairly" and dislike intensely "you" and for the enemies of the prickly, that your fruit may be clear as well as all men, that ye may be develop in Him.

Polycarp 13:1
Ye wrote to me, any ye yourselves and Ignatius, asking that if any
one require go to Syria he power market thither the correspondence from you.
And this I behest do, if I get a fit yet to come, either I in my opinion, or he whom I shall send to be envoy on your behalf along with.

Polycarp 13:2
The correspondence of Ignatius which were sent to us by him, and others as many as we had by us, we send unto you, according as ye gave charge;
the which are subjoined to this letter; from which ye behest be cost-effective to usefulness adult creep. For they power expectation and staying power and every gratis of learning, which pertaineth unto our Noble. In addition
trendy Ignatius himself and frequent that were with him, if ye restrain any consequential information, abandon us.

Polycarp 14:1
I version these objects to you by Crescens, whom I much-admired to you fair and now commend unto you: for he hath walked blamelessly
with us; and I texture along with with you in evenly balanced outward appearance. But ye shall restrain his sister much-admired, in the function of she shall come to you. Chow ye well in the Noble Jesus Christ in grace, ye and all yours. Amen.
